~First Impressions: Anne-Happy~

I am usually drawn to anime series like this with large eyed colorful characters that are in a word MOE. This anime is quirky in many senses but is also a simple joy to watch with little stress. You follow a group of girls who are all very unlucky in different ways. Each of them has entered a new school and in their class the main goal for the year is- to be happy and over come their misfortune.

Some of the misfortunes are wacky and silly but it is fun to watch this cast  of girls deal with each situation.

First Impressions: Haven’t you heard? Im Sakamoto

A quirky anime about a cool and stylish student named Sakamoto who is the subject of resentment from his fellow male students and the crushes from his female peers (and some of his male ones). He handles every situation with grace and style, though many of the situations are a little silly from sword fighting with a Bee to battleing forces of nature.

The series consists of 13 episodes and is packed with zany fun in each one. Since being simulcasted starting in April I have come across many a posting across internet sites of funny moments. A little late to the game but I finally found this series and think it is def one to sit back and watch.

First Impressions: ~Monster Musume~ (mature anime)

Okay, so I had been a little familiar with the series “Monster Musume” quite a while ago as it was a random manga I had looked at while at the bookstore. Very quickly when you look through a few pages you know exactly what kind of manga it is, ecchi overflowing. I thought it was amusing but not enough to read through and get into the story. Now fast forward and the anime version is being released. I figured “eh why not” and checked it out, now I can’t wait for the episodes to come out fast enough!

The anime is so awkwardly hilarious, I find myself laughing throughout every episode. The shenanigans these monster girls get into are crazy and super amusing through and through! But be warned this is a mature anime, lots of boobies and questionable actions.

The story revolves around a young man named Kimihito who takes on monster girls (being forced to originally) for a homestay exchange program. The knowledge of different humanoid species has been acknowledged by the government and so to learn more about each other they have made it to where other species can come stay in the human areas to learn. Kimihito winds up with seven girls to take care of all of different species.

~Ranma 1/2~ Don’t get wet!

Ranma 1/2 was the second series I was introduced to that was created by Rumiko Takahashi the first being “Inuyasha”. There are 38 volumes of manga, over 150 episodes of anime and even a few full-length films. I always thought this series was very comedic and silly but also had a few serious moments here and there that made you closer to the characters. Warning, however, there is lots of boobies all throughout the series, it is mainly about a boy who gets turned into a girl if he gets wet with cold water so…yeah he has no shame. 6_6

The story revolves around a boy named Ranma, who fell into a cursed spring along with his father on a training mission. The aftermath of them falling into the spring Ranma turns into a girl any time he is splashed with cold water, and his father turns into a large panda. They come to live with another family the Tendo’s who own a dojo. Ranma is betrothed to one of the three daughters, and it is decided the lucky girl is tough as nails Akane who seems to think Ranma is irritating and a clod. The hilarity ensues as multiple love triangles form, and each person has their own curses and past.

A large part of the plot is the various types of martial arts each person uses to fight with. Some of the moves are wacky but none the less interesting. Lots of rivalries occur between the characters, and the fights are always entertaining and fun. Check it out and let me know what you think about this series!

DeadMan Wonderland

This series is very violent and has a lot of fowl language and so is defiantly not for kids. It aired in 2011 and has a mere 12 episodes.

It follows a boy Ganta who experiences a terrible disaster as a child that nearly destroyed all of Japan. Ten years later he is a normal high school boy who watches as his class is brutally murdered by this strange “Red Man”. He is framed for the massacre and sent to a high security prison/ amusement park. Once there Ganta meets Shiro who seems to know him but he has forgotten her. After a close call where Ganta nearly dies a power awakens inside him where his blood is used as a weapon. He is taken to a special area of the prison where the Deadmen live. The Deadmen are prisoners that have a special virus where they can use their own blood to fight.

They are forced into fights against each other where the loser either dies or has to play a penalty game where they lose body parts. There is a lot of inner politics and turmoil obviously. The ‘Red Man” shows up here and there and Ganta wants his revenge. Slowly his past seems to return and many things come to light.

I thought it was an interesting story and liked it just fine. Once again it is for a mature audience.

Parasyte -The Maxim-

Based on a manga from the late 1980’s and early 90’s this anime series began airing in Oct of 2014 and is currently ongoing to complete 24 episodes. I saw my little sister reading the manga not too long ago and so when I came across this anime on crunchyroll I read through the reviews (which are very humorous) and it was overall liked quite a lot.

The series begins as these alien parasites come to Japan and find hosts. Shinichi Izumi is sleeping as a parasite attacks him trying to get to his brain. After a struggle, the parasite fails and eats his hand instead living in it’s place as a morphing little monster. Shinichi has to learn to coexist with the Parasite he names Migi. They have to deal with several other parasites that deem them a danger to the parasite race since Shinichi is still human. He has to deal with his parents and friends becoming more and more nervous because of the gruesome murders taking place across the nation and their concern for him as his personality begins changing.

So far I like this series, it holds your interest and the plot is pretty neat. You find yourself wanting to know why they are there and if they have some reason for existing. There is some pretty gory scenes throughout but not overly so in my opinion. It’s one of my favorite horror type animes so far.

Danganronpa (0_0)

Originally a video game series starting in 2010 it was soon adapted into visual novels and an anime series. My little sister let me know about this one by showing me the abridged videos on youtube and right away I was at times confused and uncomfortable >_< ha ha ha. I of course had to watch the actual show and I thought it was interesting.

It begins with Hope’s Peak Academy that selects a group of students every year who are the best of the best and one “Lucky” student who wins entrance by lottery. In this case the lucky student is Naegi Makoto. He arrives at the school and loses consciousness, shortly he wakes up and finds himself in a classroom alone. He goes searching and finds that he is trapped in this school with 14 other students. The principle is a creepy two toned robotic bear named Monokuma who informs them that they will be trapped in the school forever, unless they kill one of the other students and get away with it by not being found out by the rest. If they get found out they will be killed in various ways, if they get away with it they are set free and everyone else is killed. At first all the students refuse but soon each of them realizes they have certain reasons to get out of this prison and so the regretful murders begin.

Every student is unique and somewhat weird. You defiantly get favorites that you root for or are sad to see kick the bucket (or turned into butter). It was interesting to say the least and I would give it a watch for fun.
