~What am I watching?~

The school year has begun again and I am able to get back into a better routine finally! Lately I have been picking various different anime shows on VRV to watch and thought I would start posting a little bit about what I am watching and a bit about each show.

This first show: “Kakuriyo -Bed and Breakfast for Spirits-” I have been watching since it began simulcasting and it has been great so far! Right away it gave me “Spirited Away” and “Kamisama Kiss” vibes. Interesting characters and story for sure with lots of Ayakashi lore!

“Asobi Asobase” has been one of the funniest shows i’ve watched in a long while. It initially looks like some cute slice of life/school life show but then things take a comedic turn quickly. I find myself laughing out loud and asking “What the heck?!” while watching this show.

“Flying Witch” is like “Kiki’s Delivery Service” with more about the many aspects of being a witch and the inclusion of other spirits and things. Lots of fun characters and an all in all easy watch that feels like a slice of normal life but with a witch.

First Impressions “A Centaurs Worries”

Also known as “A Centaur’s Life”, is an anime that follows a group of friends in a world much like our own except for the fact that there are several different races in a broader sense. The races include: Angel folk, Demon Folk, Cat People, Centaurs, Mermaids and a few others. Each race has unique physical attributes but are all equal in the eyes of the government. The history of the world within the anime and manga is nearly identical to our own except that evolution changed and went a different route than in our world.

It is a “slice of life” anime that follows high school students in their everyday life and sometimes shows the world around them and political struggles. The center character as you might have guessed is a Centaur named Hime, along with her best friends a demon girl, a goat girl and a snake girl. They live fairly normal high school lives with friends, events, confessions and other things typical of teen girls.

I really enjoyed the manga as I have a interest in the “Monster Girl” genre to begin with but this series is makes it seem so normal while bringing up a lot of real world social issues that make it a gem among newer series for sure.

Have you watched this series or read the manga? Who is your favorite character or what is your favorite race? Let me know what you think in the comments!

New series I am looking forward to

There are so many new anime series that have just come out or are coming out that I am very much looking forward to. Here is a list of the top 4 series I am excited for after having been a fan of the manga:

  1. First Love Monster: This series is about a high school girl who is normally spoiled and coddled, she is rescued by a young man who is the first person to scold her and so she falls for him instantly. This story has a lot of quirky characters and a few twists that complicate this first love.
  2. The Morose Mononokean: This story has spirits and demons and mysteries under the surface concerning the main characters. There is humor and seriousness that has a fairly good balance.
  3. Sweetness and Lightning: A father and his daughter live day to day after losing their wife and mother. They meet a young girl who starts helping them with learning how to cook more food and to open up more to others. There are lots of cute scenes and lots of yummy looking foods so don’t watch if your hungry!
  4. Orange: This series is alot more complicated and serious in my opinion than the others. It centers around a group of friends who receive letters from their future selves in order to try and prevent a tragedy concerning one of their friends. Lots of emotions run high in this story but it is a beautiful story where friendship is very important.

~First Impressions: Anne-Happy~

I am usually drawn to anime series like this with large eyed colorful characters that are in a word MOE. This anime is quirky in many senses but is also a simple joy to watch with little stress. You follow a group of girls who are all very unlucky in different ways. Each of them has entered a new school and in their class the main goal for the year is- to be happy and over come their misfortune.

Some of the misfortunes are wacky and silly but it is fun to watch this cast  of girls deal with each situation.

~First Impressions: Pan de Peace~

A mini ‘sode anime series about a girl who is obsessed with you got it “Pan” otherwise known as bread. The episodes last a mere 3 mins and at this point there are 11 episodes.
Cute and funny with themes of friendship. There are some weird little tid bits throughout to make a fun veiw. This little anime will make you drool over all the delicious looking breads though, so dont watch on an empty stomach.

First Impressions: Haven’t you heard? Im Sakamoto

A quirky anime about a cool and stylish student named Sakamoto who is the subject of resentment from his fellow male students and the crushes from his female peers (and some of his male ones). He handles every situation with grace and style, though many of the situations are a little silly from sword fighting with a Bee to battleing forces of nature.

The series consists of 13 episodes and is packed with zany fun in each one. Since being simulcasted starting in April I have come across many a posting across internet sites of funny moments. A little late to the game but I finally found this series and think it is def one to sit back and watch.

~Trying Mexican Candy pt.2~

Oh man the candy we consumed were not at all good. Our tummys were upset for a few hours after trying all these >_<

~First Impressions: One Punch Man~

One PUUUUUUNNNCCCHHHH!!!!!

So. ~Ahem~ This series aired at the end of this last year and boy did it sweep across the anime community quick! It aired a total of 12 episodes and holy moly is that not nearly enough.

The plot focuses on a hero for fun Saitama who is so powerful he decimates his enemies with just one punch (hence the name). This grows old for Saitama because he craves a equal fight to really get him pumping. Soon he finds himself getting involved with much more serious happenings and meeting a host of quirky (some uncomfortably terrifying) characters. There is a bit of all sorts of comedy and nippits of seriousness in this show. You have cyborgs, martial arts, espers, monsters, aliens and so much more.

My husband and I watched this show together on Hulu while it was simulcasting and loved every bit of it. It is so funny and the fight scenes are pretty great. The main character is unique and its hard to get enough of his emotionless face. There is a bit of everything in this show and we are impatiently awaiting the second season.

First Impressions: Assassination Classroom

This anime series was released last year in Japan and was picked up by Funimation for the US release. The first season has 22 episodes and the second season which will have 25 is currently coming out. A live-action movie is also out.

The series revolves around a reject class of high school students from class E that are tasked with trying to assassinate their new teacher. The teacher happens to be an alien octopus like creature who if not assassinated by graduation will destroy the world. The kids soon find out the task of killing Koro-sensei (as they cal him) is next to impossible because of his super human abilities.

Each student has their own troubles and backgrounds but the series seems to focus on one Nagisa who seems to be the weakest in the lot but has the most talent when it comes to blood lust. The cast can be a bit zany and the series takes on a very comical tone with bits of seriousness thrown in here and there.

I find this series very amusing and like that not everything is as it seems.

First Impressions: Wakaba*Girl

MOE. That is all.

Kidding ha ha. This series is super cute and simple and a joy to watch for sure. Each episode only lasts around 8 mins and you just don’t get tired of watching the silly shenanigans these four girls get in to. The story mainly focuses on Wakaba who is a daughter from a very rich family and who has not led a seemingly normal adolescence. Now that she is in high school she is very happy to have made some girl friends and gets to do the things she thinks a “gyaru” (a girly type) would do. Each of her new friends is unique and they all fit together well. There is the pure and girly Moeko, Mao who refers to herself in third person, and Nao who likes games of the BL type. 0_0.

These four girls have silly and fun conversations and interactions that leaves you giggling and at times shaking your head. I highly recommend watching this is you want a simple relaxing thing to watch.

Have you seen this yet? What do you think of it? Are there any other series you know of that are similar to this one? Let me know in the comments!
